Well Bingers…It was bound to happen sooner or later! A series about demonic possession and they are trending — (go watch Outcast -We highly recommend.)
The Exorcist (1977) was a horror classic that still captivates and frightens audiences to this day. This take off series is beautifully shot very much like the original Exorcist Movie. Inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book and the classic horror movie, The Exorcist is a serialized psychological thriller following two very different men — Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) and Father Marcus Brennan (Ben Daniels) —battling the Rance family’s horrifying case of demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil. In the first few minutes it feels very true to the original- cinematic, dark and dated ….and we love it!
The Pilot moved pretty quickly! They get right into the action. We like that! Bring on Captain Howdy and the DEMONS!!!! (HEY! – that would be a great name for a Band-Captain Howdy and the DEMONS!!!!)
Geena Davis’s plastic surgery and/or injectables are a little distracting. I thought she was Stifler’s Mom. But we love her and haven’t seen her in the horror genre since The Fly with Jeff Goldblum. She feels like an old friend in this new Horror Series. But we are really watching for Captain Howdy for the HOT Priests! Mainly his “Holy Hotness” Alfonso (Poncho) Herrera. He is a Mexican actor and singer known primarily for performances in Mexican Telenovelas, Drunk History (a BB favorite) and Sens8e.
His character Tomas is having a crisis in faith. He’s not sure he wants to be a priest anymore…. and neither do we. Tomas loves the ladies, and the ladies love Tomas. He’s so cute and that accent!!! Ay Dios Mio!!!! Does anyone remember Thornbirds? Anyone?…Anyone? (I’ll get to the Ferris Bueller reference in a minute)
He is having visions and vivid nightmares where a priest is trying to exorcise a boy with two pupils in one eye. Yikkes I give them Creepy ‘Cred’ for that one …Haven’t seen that before.
Another noteable Cast member: Alan Ruck!!!! Who can forget him as the hopeless hypochondriac Cameron Frye in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off -Not sure how I feel about his casting yet. He will forever be typecast as adorable and iconic Cameron. I still need answers ie : Did his Dad kick his ass because he totaled his prized 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder ? We may never know. Cameron-oops! – I mean Henry – has dementia and out of the blue-tells Tomas that Father Marcus is at St. Aquinas. Yes, he’s out of it but seems to know “things”. This makes his character more interesting and locks him in for at least a few more episodes.
Enter Father Marcus (Ben Daniels) he is a priest who doesn’t play by Rome’s rules and his last exorcism went horribly wrong. But he might have the answers for His “Holy Hotness” Tomas. I really enjoyed seeing Ben Daniels who played Claire’s side piece , Adam Galloway in House of Cards. You can also spot him playing Paul the bipolar, bisexual Artistic Director of the American Ballet Company from Flesh and Bone. (Both excellent series we highly recommend watching immediately.) I like this guy more and more. He’s got a good agent, great range and is always pretty dramatic and intense.
This show definetely has potential and we hope to see Season 2…but not sure it will make it…..Maybe we should ask the Oujia board!
The last five minutes were the best in the pilot with the original Exorcist music playing while the Priests suit up to go to battle. Boondock Saints meets The Original Exorcist-This could get really fun to watch. But I doubt it…maybe if it were on a cable network but it’s FOX..
